Students acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills to: determine the significance of macromolecules (including properties in relation to their structure) in nature, describe and interpret phenomena and processes in animate nature. Master techniques used in the laboratory. Can describe briefly and clearly the results obtained, draw conclusions and apply the rules of practice writing reportsCompetences:

Basic theoretical knowledge of biochemistry and basic laboratory skills for biochemistry.
Theoretical knowledge cover the main aspects of biochemistry: structure and function of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids; Power metabolic reactions, structure, function, kinetics, mechanism of action of enzymes and cofactors, regulation of enzymatic reactions, structure and function of the plasma membrane, metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and amino acids (photosynthesis , respiration, nitrogen fixation) DNA replication and repair, transcription, translation, regulation of gene expression.

Laboratory class - mandatory, exam - oralComment:
The students work on laboratory assignments that are connected to theoretical knowledge with practice. Laboratory classes are divided on several modules. Participation in the laboratory assignments is obligatory. For each laboratory module students write laboratory reports. All the modules must be approved in order to pass the course.
