Learning outcomes: The knowledge gained will allow to better understand ecological processes in the light of evolutionary changes; student after having completed this course will be able to interpret animal behavior on the background of its environment and from the point of evolutionary adaptations.
Competences: These will allow to understand processes undergoing in natural environment; the knowledge gained will be useful in planning nature reserves, national and landscape parks and also in species protection. Competences may help in aquarium and terrarium breeding, and in animal breeding in zoological gardens.
Prerequisites: vertebrate zoology, general ecology, evolutionism
Course content: Evolution of productivity and mortality; Dynamics and evolution of niches; specialization and generalization; evolutionary outcomes of predation and competition; evolution of biodiversity; evolutionary stable strategy; egoism and altruism; territoriality and colonialism; mating systems; optimal foraging strategy; anti-predation adaptations; fundamentals of sociobiology.
