PolishLearning outcomes:
After completing the course student is able to practise the basic laboratory techniques of organic chemistry (destilation, extraction, crystallization, chromatography). He is able to synthetize a simple organic compound by himself as well as determine its basic physicochemical data (melting point, boiling point, refractive index). On the basis of characteristic reactions and spectroscopic data (NMR, IR, UV) the student is capable to identify the unknown organic compound.Competences:
Completing the course makes possible to design the synthesis of simple compounds, to establish the structure of new compounds isolated from natural sources as well as the products of chemical and enzymatic reactions. Prerequisites:
General and Inorganic ChemistryCourse content:
Nomenclature, properties and reactions of aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic compounds containing the common functional groups. Stereochemistry and the electronic structures of these molecules. Mechanisms of reactions of organic compounds. The introduction to the major classes of biomolecules: carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides, nucleotides and nucleic acids. The application of spectroscopic methods to establishing the structure of organic compounds.Recommended literature:
