After completing the course the student will understand the complexity of GMO problem in the framework of molecular genetics, binding law regulations and public perception. Competences:
In the framework of scientific knowledge and binding in Poland law regulations student will be able to make decision about any GMO questions : GMO cultures introduction, GMO in food and food production, GMO as biopharmaceutics producers, GMO analysis.Prerequisites:
Molecular biology, genetic engineering
Course content:
Introduction to the problem and GMO definitions. Transgenic plants resistant to : insects, pathogens, herbicides and stress. Transgenic animals in biopharmaceutical production. Improvement of animal herds or population and animal food products. Transgenic microorganisms in biopharmaceutical and food production. Risk and benefice of GMO application. Law regulations binding in the World and in Poland. Recommended literature:
