Learning outcomes: Student has extended knowledge of specific complex issues related to cultural landscape protection Student has detailed knowledge of selected issues concerning the management of natural and cultural environment and methods and techniques of study and analyses thereof. Skills Student is able to assess the value of natural and cultural landscape, select methods of the protection of landscape assets and propose actions therein in the processes of landscape management, programming, planning and design is Student is able to exploit the knowledge of specific detailed problems concerning the contemporary trends and issues in landscape architecture

Competences: Student has sense of responsibility in rational and effective management of landscape resources

Prerequisites: Principles of landscape design, objects design of the landscape architecture, engineering graphics

Course content: After the course the student has a knowledge in the field of protection of the cultural heritage in the landscape, basics of the monuments conservation, and protection of historic sites according to the contemporary needs of sustainable development of the historical fortifications. Historical outline of the fortifications on the area of Poland from early middle ages to the WW2 period. Fundamental defensive elements and defence tactics – its role on the shaping of the historical structures in different historical periods. Military heritage architecture on the examples from all around the world. Types of large-scale area protection of the former-military heritage sites in case of historical greenery. Functions of the heritage monuments protection offices. Order of the research design in the restoration and revitalization of the historical fortifications. Fortress greenery – historical functions and contemporary ways of use.
