During the course a theoretical knowledge on physical and chemical properties of groundwater is gained as well as rules regarding to groundwater monitoring system. Student get to know threats and hazards made by human activity in economy as well as basic principles of contaminant transport in soil and aquifer with simple methods of mathematical modelling of such processes. Student get to know the knowledge on rules and methods of groundwater resources protection against qualitative and quantitative deterioration.Competences:
Completion of the course will be great advantage when applying for the position in environmental agencies and national and local authorities. Prerequisites:
Course content:
Chemical composition. Classifications and groundwater monitoring systems. Quantitative and qualitative hazards caused by various human activities. Groundwater vulnerability to pollution. Principles of contaminants transport in porous media. Legal and methodological aspects of groundwater protection. Protection areas for aquifers and water supply systems. Methods of remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater.Recommended literature:

Assessment methods:
Evaluation of projects and written tests, written exam. Minimum 60% of knowledge to pass. Comment:
