PolishLearning outcomes:
Student knows, understand and properly interprets processes and principles determining a water cycle in geoecosystems, he can determine basic hydrological characteristics in both controlled and uncontrolled catchments. Student knows basic methods of determination the characteristic discharges depending on computational cross-section location in relation to water gauging station. He knows the causes and evolution of hydrological extreme phenomena and methods of their forecasting.Competences:
Student knows how to determine the suitability of hydrological data to estimate different phenomena in the natural environment. He knows what kind of activities should be undertaken to mitigate the droughts and floods consequences in agriculture.Prerequisites:
MeteorologyCourse content:
Land phase of water cycle. Water balance. Surface, point and linear hydrographic objects. Physico-geographical characteristics of catchment. Classification of rivers, river systems. Hydrometric measurements of water stage, discharge, sediment transport. Publications of hydrometric measurements. IMGW PIB activities. Methods of determination the characteristic discharges in controlled and uncontrolled catchments. Runoff, flow, runoff measures. Hydrological extreme phenomena – freshets and floods, low flows, droughts. Hydrological phenomena forecasting. The man’s interference in water cycle – water resources enrichment, limiting shortages, flood protection. Disposable and renewable water resources.Recommended literature:
