Dr Elżbieta SacałaLanguage of instruction:
Polish / EnglishLearning outcomes:
During the course student has knowledge on the molecular, biochemical and physiological consequences caused by (biotic and abiotic) stress factors. Student understands processes that are involved in signal transduction pathways and defensive mechanisms in plants. Student is able to plan and carry out the laboratory experiments and interpret obtained results. Competences:
After passing the course student is able to evaluate the primary and secondary effects of stresses on plants and knows the strategies that lead to enhancement of plants tolerance to unfavourable environmental conditions.Prerequisites:
Plant physiologyCourse content:
Biotic and abiotic stress factors. Adaptation and acclimation. Phase sequences in stress responses of plants. Common components and pathways induced in plants by the stress. Changes in plant hormonal status (role of abscisic acid, jasmonates, ethylene and nitric oxide).Overproduction of active oxygen species.Stress metabilites (proline, betaines, polyols) and stress proteins (HSP, LEA, PR). Plant response to polluted environment (heavy metals, xenobiotics, salinity).Recommended literature:
