Learning outcomes: Student gets knowledge about mains soil forming factors influencing process of soil formation in mountain areas and soil- climatic vertical zonality. Student knows methods and criteria of rational evaluation and exploitation of ploghed and forest soils. Student knows characteristic of meadow, forest and ploughed soils in mountain areas; threatments for this soil from different forms of soil degradation process and methods of soil environment preservation as well.

Competences: After completing the course students will be able to determine soil classification units of mountains areas, present methods of rational soil exploitation, location of agricultural – forest border in mountain areas and elaborate soil environment evaluation.

Prerequisites: Soil science, Geology, Crop production, Ecology, Grasslands cultivation

Course content: Geological conditions of mountain soils genesis. Typical features and properties of mountain soils. Criteria for rational management of mountain soils. Mountain soils categories. Characteristic of mountain soils categories. Problems of agricultural – forest border in mountain areas and criteria of it determining on Sudeten and Carpathian Mountains examples. Soil as determining factor for agriculture development in mountain areas. Soil environment degradation and protection of mountains areas.

Assessment methods: field practice, oral exam. obligatory credit past 2 (9) semester, oral exam after 2 (9) semester
