Learning outcomes: Course completion permits examination and prevention of animal products contamination and allows taking part in radiation and radiation terrorism protection services. Moreover, the course provides students with knowledge concerning biological factors applicable in terrorist attacks, their application and methods of detection.
Competences: After completion the subject students have knowledge concerning biological factors applicable in terrorist attacks, their application and methods of detection.
Prerequisites: Microbiology
Course content: 1 Application of biological factors in the terrorist attacks – properties, history and methods of application. Influence of biological factors on people and animals. Agricultural terrorism, threats for the food industry. Diagnostics of biological factors used as terrorist weapons. The influence of ionizing radiation on biological material. Behaviour of radioisotopes in the environment. The ways of contamination and radionuclides distribution in organism. Metabolism of selected radionuclides. Tasks of veterinary services in radiation protection of Poland and Europe. Dosimetry and evaluation of fodders and animal products contamination. Decontamination and methods for of external and internal pollutions elimination.

Assessment methods: Final test- minimum 60% of knowledge to pass.
