After completing the course student will know the relationships between abiotic and biotic factors of the environment and their influence on the human’s health. He will know the sources of contamination the air, water, soil and forests as well as types of contamination produced by agriculture - food industry, agricultural and breeding production as well as different ways of its prevention. Student will know what the monitoring of the environment is. Also he will know the regulations of law and environmental protection as well as the international conventions concerning the environment protection and cooperation in this range. Competences:
After completing the course student will know the permissible contaminant level of the environment, methods of its protection, excluding the food industry. Prerequisites:
chemistry, biochemistry, overall and food microbiology, waste-water and energetic economics Course content:
Bases of ecology and environmental protection. Human’s environment. Natural resources. Atmosphere protection including: dangers, dust pollution and ways of its rendering. Water protection. Eutrophication and self-clining. The influence of water contamination on the food quality. Sources of soil pollution. The influence of soil contamination on the food quality and human health. Methods of soil protection, industry land reclamation and polluted soil disposal. Wastes disposal. Environment hazard connecting the wastes storage. Biospheric contamination with radioactive isotopes. Sources of radioactive contaminations and their influence on human’s health. Methods of prevention the radioactive food contamination.
