Learning outcomes: The student after completion of the course should be able to efficiently identify the technological monuments in the landscape. He should search for informations, interpret them correctly and apply. He should possess a basic ability to assess cultural values of the object. The student should know how to assess the role and importance of the object in the landscape. He should be able to draw up an analysis of cultural and landscape values and practically prepare the conceptual design for the protection, exposure, sharing and possible adaptation of the object.

Competences:

Prerequisites: There are predicted the possibility of outdoor activities: 1.Technical monuments in the landscape of Wrocław. 2.Technical monuments in areas of high landscape values (Sudety Mountains with the Sudety Foreland – railways, mines, components of the energy industry, and others - one day trip).

Course content: o Introduction to the subject issues. o The work of art as a component of the cultural landscape. o Techniques monument as a landscape identifier. o Mining monuments in the landscape. o Elements of communication systems in the landscape – rail and wheel transport (e.g.: railway stations, viaducts and bridges). o Shipping and elements of water engineering in the landscape (including e.g. inland navigation, port landscapes, lighthouses). o Wrocław waterway. o Elements of energy systems (e.g. power plants, trafostations). o Elements of hydraulic engineering systems in the landscape (e.g. water reservoirs). o Elements of systems for the capture and treatment of water in the landscape (e.g. pumping stations, water treatment plants, water towers). o The problem of protection, exposure, new use of technical monuments. o Technical monument as a tourist product. o The role and importance of the technical heritage in sightseeing education. o Selected examples of the historic post-industrial complexes o Landscape of the industrial cities.
