The course provides an integrated overview of systematics and classification of invertebrate phyla, their origin, morphology, anatomy, biology and economic importance.Competences:
The knowledge of invertebrate taxa, including those which are economically important, will enable students to diagnose the particular taxa. It will also create the preliminary background to carry out research studies and courses in the field of invertebrate zoology.Prerequisites:
Course content:
General characteristics of invertebrates. Origin. Living environment. Basics of classification, systematics and phylogeny. Structure and functions. Life cycles. Ontogeny and phylogeny. Origin of major groups of Metazoa. Systematic review of Protozoa (heterotrophic Protista) and Metazoa (Animalia: Porifera, Cnidaria, Ctenophora, Platyhelminthes, Nemertea, Blastocoelomata)Recommended literature:
