After completing the course students will know the statistical methods used when analyzing genomes of animals, and will be able to work with the specialized computer software developed for the genome-wide association study.Competences:
Passing the course permits working in laboratories where the data of biological (molecular) origin are processed using the methods of bioinformatics (molecular and bioinformatics laboratories, research and clinical institutes, units evaluating the genetic merit of animals).Prerequisites:
biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, computer scienceCourse content:
The overall purpose of the course is to provide students with theoretical background and practical skills concerning genetic markers, linkage disequilibrium (LD) and its measures, mapping genes of large effects (QTL) using LD, marker assisted selection (MAS), and factors affecting the accuracy of genome-wide association study and genomic selection.Recommended literature:
