PolishLearning outcomes:
Students obtain theoretical knowledge of histochemical and cytochemical techniques together with practical skills of performing particular procedures, as well as, interpreting theirs results. Additionally, students learn how to plane biological experiments involving localization and identification of molecular components, metabolic activities and cell biological aspects of cells and tissues.Competences:
The course allows students for independent choice of histochemical and cytochemical methodology and for carrying analysis of obtained data required for their bachelor and master thesis. Students are also able to interpret results of research papers, which can be incorporated as references for their bachelor or master thesis. After course completion students posses skills enabling them to work in institutions dealing with planning and overtaking cyto- and histochemical procedures testing. Prerequisites:
cell biology, histology, anatomy Course content:
Stable isotopes marking methods of nucleic acids, protein, lipids, carbohydrates and others biologically active molecules, non isotopes marking methods of biological macromolecules, in vivo and in vitro cytochemistry, markers factors of particular cell compartments and organelles, signals detection methods used in histochemical and cytochemical techniques.Recommended literature:
1. Bielańska-Osuchowska Z.: Embriologia, PWRiL, Warszawa 1993.
2. Kuryszko J., Zarzycki J.: Histologia Zwierząt, PWRiL, Warszawa 2000.
3. Bettenay S., Hargis A.: Practical Veterinary Dermatopathology 2006.
Assessment methods:
Completion of the practical training part is based on grades, which are granted during the semester (oral and written tests and final exam); minimum 60% of knowledge to pass.Comment:
