PolishLearning outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the students should be able to (1) understand and describe basic concepts of plant ecology at different ecological scales, from individual organisms, populations of organisms, communities, ecosystems and global level of organization; (2) understanding of importance of man in main anthropogenic changes (e.g. greenhouse gases and climate changes, habitat destruction and declining biological diversity, nitrogen deposition and acid rain, and invasive species) at the both local and global scale.Competences:
Passing the course permits work in national institutions, e.g. National Parks, schools, research institutes and connected with ecological network of Natura 2000 as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Prerequisites:
plant morphology and systematic, zoology, general ecology, soil scienceCourse content:
Study of the entire field of ecology, from individuals plants (how they respond to light, water and nutrients) through populations (structure, dynamics and evolutionary processes), communities (structure, properties, biodiversity, interactions among organisms) and ecosystems (structure and functioning), to large scale of global processes (e.g. biomes, climate change, declining global biodiversity).
