Learning outcomes: After completing the course the student will know the sources of environmental pollution in the air, water, soil and forests and also types of pollutants in food and other industries as well as necessary measures to prevent and control them. The student knows the environmental laws and how to monitor the environmental pollution respecting Polish and international legislation.

Competences: The student will know the permissive levels of contaminants in various environments, protective measures and legal regulations.

Prerequisites: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology

Course content: Fundamentals of environmental protection. Composition of the air and atmospheric phenomena. Protection of the atmosphere, including dust and gas pollutants and protective measures used for their control. Water protection. Eutrophication and treatment of waters. The geological structure of soils and methods used for soil protection. Reclamation and management of degraded soils and land. Municipal and industrial landfills. Waste management regulations in Poland and EU.
