PolishLearning outcomes:
After completing the course students know taxonomy and virus classification, virus structure and viral pathogenesis – entry into the host and replication, cell defence and virus evasion strategies. Students understand mechanisms of viral infections in human and animals, know main viral diseases (especially these transmitted by food), new diagnostic methods and viral diseases prevention (vaccinations).Competences:
Students have a general knowledge about virology, about food-borne viruses and prions which form a risk for human health (virus/prion characteristics, epidemiological aspects, pathogenesis, clinics, diagnosis and control), students are able to adopt these knowledge to their future work, e.g. in laboratory diagnostics, in scientific examinations and in food production.
Prerequisites:
Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Microbiology
Course content:
Taxonomy and virus classification, virus structure, pathogenesis of viral infections, main viral diseases in human and animal, food-borne viruses, diagnostic methods, viral diseases prevention, other transmissible agents: prions, viroids, etc.Recommended literature:
