Learning outcomes: Students are familiar with isolation techniques of organic compounds. Students can predict the most important spectral properties of chemical substances. Students can predict the correct or most probable structure from experimental data.
Competences: Students are able to isolate the organic compounds, select the most appropriate solution for a given analytical problem and evaluate the results of the analysis.
Prerequisites: Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry
Course content: Isolation of natural compounds and methods of determination of their molecular weight. The application of chiral-optical methods (ORD, CD) for determination of configuration of chiral centers of optically active components. The basis of mass spectrometry, IR and UV and the application of these methods for the functional groups identification.

Assessment methods: Written exam, the minimal level of knowledge required to pass the course is 60%.
