The student acquires theoretical knowledge about elements, bonds and chemical reactions occurring in building materials; becomes able to conduct chemical calculations of substances and processes, gains knowledge about corrosion processes in building materials and protection against corrosion. Acquires practical ability to analyze make-up water and observe corrosion processes in cement and metal composites, and practical ways to counter corrosion. Competences:
completion of the course enables to conduct assays of make-up waters in laboratories of materials technology and also to elaborate recipes of various mortars and cement grouts. Prerequisites:

Periodic system of elements, classification and nomenclature of inorganic and organic compounds, bonds, reactions, kinetics and chemical thermodynamic, physicochemistry of water, colloidal systems, electrochemistry, structure of solid, crystallochemistry of silicates and aluminium silicates, chemistry of mineral binders (aerial and hydraulic), stone materials, building ceramics, chemistry of organic building materials (wood, bitumic binders, plastics, chemistry of building metals, corrosion processes and protection.
