Students acquire knowledge about new biotechnology in plant breeding to improve varieties for horticulture practice.Competences:
Understanding the need to use biotechnology for the improvement of varieties and accelerate the selection process. The need for cooperation at national and international level to improve horticultural plants. Domestication and acclimatization of new plants for the food industry and processing, and use their ornamental values in horticultural practice.Prerequisites:
Botany, genetics and plant breeding, biochemistryCourse content:
Awareness for the use of in vitro cultures and highlight the possibility of applying them in practice to accelerate and facilitate the selection process. The possibility of using doubled haploid lines for breeding varieties of the acceleration process. To learn about study of DNA polymorphism (molecular markers) and the benefits of their use. Application of biotechnology methods in the breeding of horticultural plants, or plants improvement.Recommended literature:
