Students can take a well informed decision on the necessity of plant control treatment in orchards as well as in vegetable and ornamental crops. They can select the chemical or biological agent that would be efficient in a particular control situation and are prepared to choose the appropriate application method for it.Competences:
After completion of the course students are capable of working within plant protection area in horticultural as well as in commercial situations. They can also become specialists in pest control in any other contexts, e.g. in extension services.Prerequisites:
Chemistry, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Invertabrate Physiology, Soil Tillage and Plant Cultivation.Course content:
Composition and physical properties of commercial plant protection products. Commonly used formulations and treatments. Operator safety, essential toxicology and ecotoxicology – target and non-target organisms for chemical treatments. Pest resistance to chemical agents. Properties of particular product groups with selected details on specimen products. Application techniques. Non-chemical methods of pest control. GMO`s status within integrated pest management framework.Recommended literature:
