The course provides an integrated overview of systematics and classification of animal phyla, their origin, morphology, anatomy, biology and economic importance; practical skills apply to the ability of identification of major groups of animals at the class level and, in case of the Polish fauna – representatives of particular orders (of lower categories in relation to protected or economically important taxa); the knowledge of research techniques (methods of sampling/collecting, preservation, dissection and identification, with special regard to regulations concerning protected taxa) will constitute an integral part of learning outcomes.Competences:
The knowledge of animal taxa will constitute a starting point at understanding the mechanisms functioning in animal world, it will enable students to diagnose the particular taxa, including those which are protected or economically important, it will also create the background for being employed at the research and commercial laboratories, the research units of national parks and other institutions dealing with nature preservation and at museum collections.Prerequisites:
