PolishLearning outcomes:
After completing the course student will possess the knowledge of systematics and classification of invertebrate and vertebrate animals, their origin, morphology, anatomy and biology as well as their role in the environment and in the life of humans. Students will also understand the basic correlations between organisms in natural and antropogenic ecosystems, principles of ecosystem evolution and of intra- and interspecific relationships.Competences:
The acquired knowledge will allow students to identify the most important species – the representatives of studied taxa, with special attention paid to protected species. It will make possible to understand the content of further courses. The knowledge constitutes an indispensable basis for continuation of learning within the framework of pedagogical course.Prerequisites:
Biology on the level of secondary schoolCourse content:
General characteristics of invertebrates and vertebrates. Living environment. Basics of classification, systematics and phylogeny. Structure and function of organisms. Adaptations to particular habitats. Life cycles. Systematic review of protists (Protista) and multicellular animals (Animalia). Basic terms in ecology: biocenosis, ecosystem, population, interspecific relationships, trophic relations.Recommended literature:
