Learning outcomes: The student on completion of the course should be familiar with: the importance of space in human actions, the importance of basic factors determining the space management, the role and importance of the cultural environment in the operation and development of the territory, basic demographic analysis in the planning tools; They will be able to describe: the types and main features of the space of in the spatial management, the demographic potential of the territory, the relevance of civic engagement in the management of the settlement area or region, the meaning of the human and social capital, and its role in development, - they will know which methods are useful to identify the social and cultural potential of the territory, - they will be able to apply in practice several methods and techniques a) to demonstrate the potential and social and cultural determinants important in choice of the territorial development policy of the as the basic constraints in choosing the directions of development of the territory b) to characterize the importance of the cultural values in retaining and shaping the identity of the area c) the identification and interpretation of demographic changes in local, national, European and global systems.

Content of education: The concept of management and the definitions of place according to Tischner; the notion of the terms: embededness, sanctification, and heritage. Space as an element of (consumer) goods, object of shaping, using, conservation; human spatial needs. Spaces of social life by Lyman Scott and Alexandra Chermayeff, private space, \'public sphere\' in democracy by Habermas. Behavioural determinants of human spatial actions, the concept of proxemics by E. T. Hall. The concept and type of the distances. Proposals for the spatial planning. Architectural space - space structure (stereotypes, archetypes, prototypes), the structure of the architectural space, the importance of \'genius loci\' in the architecture. Spatial order (natural, geometric order). Reproduction of the space – by art, sciences; methods and instruments of reproduction. Human capital, social capital - the conceptual similarities and differences. Civil society - the definitions, the nature of the phenomenon, advantages and disadvantages, formalized approach. Culture, regional culture, the cultural environment - conceptual considerations, the importance of their values. The phenomenon, structure, character, spirit, identity of place, cultural environment – general notions, regional differentiation of environmental elements in the selected regions. Contemporary and future directions of development of civilization, both in urban and rural areas, and their consequences for the spatial policy. Introduction to demography, demographic data sources. The main demographic coefficients and methods of the demographic analysis, the historical changes in the number of human population and distribution. The migration. Structure and distribution of human population according to selected socio-economic features. Vital statistics (births, deaths); Statistics of marriage, divorce and separation; Measures of human population reproduction. Family and household terms in the demography. Selected social problems in the study on human population. Demographic issues in the local, regional and national planning (with examples of documents, objectives and principles of their creation).
