The student posses the basic knowledge about relational algebra, is able to design a database schema for a simple problem concerning database integrity requirements, is familiar with SQL queries used to manipulate data stored in the database, knows the processes occurring in the database and the role of databases in the architecture of enterprise solutions Competences:
the student may participate in projects requiring knowledge of data bases at the level of intermediate advanced user

Introduction (database systems and their management, query languages, client-server architecture). Database design (relational data model, the process of normalization, requirements analysis). Elements of SQL (the creation and manipulation of data, queries designing.) Methods of preserving the integrity of the database (relations, assertions, domains, triggers). Managing access to data (users, roles, permissions). Concurrency problems (transactions, isolation levels). XML support.

Assessment methods:
lectures: test exam (minimum passing score is 50% of total points)
practical: average mark received for all the assignments (each assignment must be evaluated positively)
