Learning outcomes: Education effects: The student after completion of the course should have a general idea of the work and responsibilities that he may take in the future profession, know the basic terms and be able to carry out a preliminary analysis of the self selected landscape setup in terms of function (compatibility with a variety of human needs), form, and compliance with the spatial context. He should be able to use basic databases, methods of obtaining informations necessary for design work. One of the results of own studies should be an independent choice of the most interesting contemporary landscape architect (or landscape setup) and the ability to justify this choice

Competences: knowledge of the basic terms and ability to carry out a preliminary analysis of the self selected landscape setup in terms of function, form, and compliance with the spatial context. Skills to usage of the basic databases, methods of obtaining informations necessary for design work

Prerequisites:

Course content: An introduction to landscape architecture. Landscape - the development of term, definitions. Natural and cultural landscape. Landscape architecture - between urban planning and garden art. Historical context. The identity of the landscape and the meaning of the protection of historic landscape setups. Cultural basis for design. Principles of conservation protection. Specificity of conservation works in the garden objects. Legal protection conditionings of historic garden and landscape setups. Contemporary trends in conservation. Landscape architecture – between art and skill. Sense garden and garden poetry. Creativity or service activity?
