Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 - names and defines the basic measures of physiological stress (biological and demographic) and knows the possibilities to use them to estimation of the biological condition (fitness) of modern and paleo- populations [KB2_W04, KB2_W03_BC]; W2 - knows the selected factors influencing the characteristics of human populations in the evolutionary past and at present [KB2_W01, KB2_W05, KB2_W06]; Skills: Student: U1 - analyzes and evaluates the biological health of the population on the basis of indicators of physiological stress, and demographic data [KB2_U07, KB2_U01_BC]; U2 - can estimate the mode of life and socio-economic status of the populations (especially paleopopulations) [KB2_U01_BC];

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 - is aware of the influence of environmental factors on the human properties of biological and demographic indicators [KB2_K04].

Prerequisites: without preconditions, recommended basic knowledge of general ecology

Course content: Factors determining human environment and their changes with time. The background of intra-species variability. Secular changes. Phenomena of social stratification. Ecosensivity in various stages of ontogenesis and in dependence on sex. Internal environment of organism, homeostasis. The origin of races and racial theories. Health and immunity. Significance of nutrition and physical activity. Statistical indices qualifying health condition of populations. Factors determining demographical status of modern and paleo- populations.

Assessment methods: Completion of the course: students have a written exam test (40-50 open questions, problematic in a part) during the exam session. The exam lasts 100 minutes. If the exam is not passed in the first time, student has the right to pass it (in writing) in the second period.
