Knowledge
Student knows the balancing process involving microorganisms; describes the process of fermentation in terms of kinetic; explains the process of batch and continuous fermentation; proposes manner and conditions of the fermentation process.
Skils
Student selects the substrate of the fermentation; calculates the efficiency of the process, provides heat balance of the process; selects the kinetic model of the process, carries out the fermentation process under optimal conditions; evaluates the process.
Competences:
Student understands the impact of the kinetics of the process and conditions for its progress on the amount of water and energy demand.Prerequisites:
basic information on the following subjects: mathematics, chemistry, physical chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, bioengineering.Course content:
Elemental composition of microorganisms. The balance of microbial growth. Limitations of balance sheet growth. The kinetics of enzymatic reaction. The problem of inhibition. Kinetic equations of fermentation. Periodic fermentation. Continuous fermentation. The productivity of the bioreactor. Efficiency of the process.Recommended literature:
