Lecturer: prof. dr hab. inż. Alicja Czamara
Language of instruction: Polish / English
The course in English will be available if a minimum of 6 students sign up for a group. If less than 6 students sign up for the group, the course will be available in Polish with the possibility of individual support in English.

Learning outcomes: During the course student gets the knowledge on: dynamic geology and hydrogeology, hydrogeologic properties of soils and methods of its determination; the basic rules of groundwater flow; methods of aquifer capacity determination.

Competences: After completion of the course student is able: to calculate water flow into wells or drainage ditches, to determine depression curve position, to use thematic maps (geologic, hydrogeologic), to evaluate hydrogeologic conditions of particular area (to make hydrogeologic cross-section, hydroizohips and hydroizobaths maps).

Prerequisites: mathematics

Course content: Basics of geology. The hydrologic cycle. Geological conditions of groundwater occurrence. Classification of groundwater. Basic physical and hydrogeologic properties of soils. Anthropogenic threats for underground water. Determination of underground water flow direction. Hydraulic gradient, critical hydraulic gradient. Darcy’s law and range of its validity. Methods of permeability coefficient determination. Permeability and water seepage in unsaturated zone. Water flow into ditches and wells. Hydrodynamic flow net. Aquifer capacity, methods of determination and classification.
