Student gains a theoretical knowledge and practical skills enabling him to understand main geological processes undergoing in present and in geologic time scale;, as well as understanding processes of the Earth evolution. Student has a skill to characterize the most important minerals and rocks.Competences:
Student is able to describe and interpret main geological processes, as well as to identify the most common minerals and rocks. Student is able to interpret topographic and geologic maps. Prerequisites:

Development and classification of minerals and rocks; endogenic geological processes: plutonism, volcanism, metamorphism; egzogenic geological processes: weathering and releasing of elements into natural cycles; erosion, main geomorphological forms, diastrophism, origin and evolution of continents and oceans, development of mountain systems, lithosphere plate tectonics, tectonic deformations, reasons and effects of earthquakes, geologic time, methods of dating of geological events during history of the Earth; beginning of the universe and evolution of the Earth; geological eras and periods; the Earth as an element of solar system, structure of the Earth, geospheres: nuclei, mantle, lithosphere, continental and oceanic crusts.
