Learning outcomes: Student possesses basic knowledge on the connection between plant ecology and human activity in agriculture. He understands what is the environmental complex and know its effect on plant growth. He knows biodiversity and its types.

Competences: After passing the course student receive ability to: assess environmental conditions in farm, make decisions on reduction of use of industrial cultural energy and how to increase biological cultural energy. In crop production in the farm he will be able to take advantage of planned and associated diversity. Student will be better able to make good use of ecological processes in agroecosystem in order to increase its productivity and he will be able to assess functioning of the agroecosystem in the environment properly.

Prerequisites: Soil science, soil tillage and crop production, plant nutrition, crop protection.

Course content: The environmental complex and its effect on plant growth, energy flow in agroecosystem, types of energy input in crop production, planned and associated diversity, indices of species diversity, unconventional methods of increasing of agroecosystem diversity, types of crop mixtures, plant interactions in mixtures, assessment of mixture productivity.
