Learning outcomes: Knowledge: knows the basic methods and principles used in urban design, planning design and architectural design, which encompass the principles of composition in the field of solving simple engineering tasks; possesses basic knowledge regarding the process of designing engineering space; has a theoretically supported, ordered general knowledge regarding the basic (historical, cultural and ergonomic) determinants of the designing process; possesses basic knowledge regarding the creation of simple flat and spatial forms required to understand the social, economic, legal and other non-technical determinants of engineering activity, with an understanding of the rules behind forming spatial order; has basic knowledge regarding development trends in the context of using the principles of composition in planning, architectural and urban projects; Abilities: has the ability to learn on their own; can solve simple project tasks and communicate in their professional environment and other settings using various techniques; can form spatial order using the principles of flat and spatial composition; can draw respective conclusions; can arrange and form space in a given area; can identify and correct simple urban forms of cities and villages;

Competences: Social competence (attitudes): is aware of the importance of proper and rational spatial management, understands the non-economical meaning of governing an area, can cooperate and work in a team, assuming different roles; can think and act as a manager when working on urban and project studies; is aware of the importance, role and meaning of the close and distant surroundings in the forming of space and understands the non-technical aspects and consequences of engineering activity, including its influence on the environment and the accompanying responsibility for their decisions.

Prerequisites: demography and the socio-cultural determinants of spatial development, urban history, freehand drawing, planning and technical drawing.

Course content: Terminology in design. Spatial, urban and architectural planning. The theoretical and practical concepts of spatial development. Contemporary trends in spatial development. Elements and principles of composition. The theories of compositional analysis and the selection of spatial forms for composition. The practical aspect of using the principles of composition in planning, urban and architectural projects. The function of terrain as a programme extension of the purpose of space. Introduction to the fundamentals of green area design. Ergonomics: acquiring optimum work conditions by adjusting the work environment, machines and technical equipment to fit the physical and mental characteristics of humans. Creating new spatial values (the city and its spatial structure, the city's social structure as reflected in its spatial structure, the influence of industry on the living environment, the living environment and the conditions for controlling human behaviour).
