Learning outcomes: Knowledge: -Student defines basic terms concerning virology, bacteriology and mycology -Explains interactions between pathogens and hosts -Describes usage of microscopic and cultural methods, biochemical and serological tests in the identification of microorganisms Practical skills: -Performs basic tests used in the microbiology -Interprets results of laboratory tests

Competences: Student can organize cooperation with a diagnostic laboratory

Prerequisites: Biology, Chemistry

Course content: Biology of bacteria and fungi, phenomena occurring in the world of micro-organisms, interactions between macro- and micro-organisms, the role of bacteria and fungi in the environment, culture and identification of bacteria and fungi. Groups of viruses, viral diseases and prophylaxis.

Assessment methods: Obligatory passing grades of laboratory course and oral exam after the semester 4. Minimum required knowledge for passing: at least 60% .
