Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student gains general knowledge of the plant biology) with the special attention paid on the organs, tissues and intracellular organelles which are used as vegetable raw materials as well as plants reproduction cycle and processes of seeds and fruits formation as well as their structure and botanical classification [BZ_W01]; he knows inner structure (histology and anatomy) of plant organs at various stage of ontogenesis [BZ_W10]; he knows plant species important for food production and their key diagnostic features [BZ_W07]. Skills: he can recognize the most popular field weeds, meadow and cultivated plants as well as define their value as food, including toxic effects for animals and human. thus he gains skilling for general assessment of the safety of green forage selection [BZ_U06; BZ_U14]; he is to prepare microscopic slides and use microscope for biological observation [BZ_U11];

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): student is aware of his responsibility for adequate selection of green forage and its influence on the human and animal health [BZ_K09].

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: biology on the level of secondary school

Course content: Course contents: Structure and origin of plants’ organs and their modifications, with the special attention paid on the storage organs. Elements of plant cytology, histology and anatomy. Plant reproduction types. The scheme of plant systematic and their origin. key features of main taxonomical groups, Botanical characteristics of the selected families of the Magnoliophyta division and their representatives important for food production and its safety.

Assessment methods: Assessment methods: tutorals and lectures are credited separately, on a base of systematically written tests (in total 8), during tutorals also running visual control of the students work and assessment of practical identification of the plant species. Presence during tutorals is obligatory; only one absence is allowed. In a case of the latter student is obligate to pass the part of knowledge realizing during the classes he was absent. Assessment note is a mean note.
