Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Knows the basic economic categories. Knows the processes of the market mechanism and deviance from the state of balance. Knows about the labour market, especially about unemployment and ways of battling it. Knows about state interventionism and its instruments, as well as the basic macro-economic indicators. Has general knowledge in the sphere of entrepreneurship and the functioning of an enterprise within market economy. Abilities: Differentiates between basic economic categories. Knows how to evaluate the socio-economic situation of a country with regard to global economy. Analyses and evaluates decisions by local authorities with respect to economic growth and structural policies. Differentiates between and evaluates the basic functions of entrepreneurship and personal financial undertakings.

Competences: Social competence (attitudes): Acknowledges the importance of economic knowledge with regard to using it in private and professional life. Is aware of the need to update one's knowledge and knows how to do it.

Course content: Basic economic categories. Rational management. Market economy and its features. Inflation and the labour market. State economy structure. Market enterprise. State interventionism – aims and instruments of influence. Socio-economic development and its indicators – sustainable development.
