Competences: K1 – student is aware of responsibility for tasks that are realized in team [BH2_K01; R2A_K01; BH2_K03; R2A_K03]; K2 – student is open for looking for new information about specific subject and is conscious continuous of changes resulting from technological progress [BH2_K01; R2A_K01]; K3 – student obeys the rules of different feed additives application resulted from the law [BH2_K04; R2A_K04; BH2_K05; R2A_K05; BH2_K06; R2A_K06]; K4 – student perceives relationship between the choice of biological additive and consequence of its application on live organisms and environment [BH2_K06; R2A_K06].

Prerequisites: animal physiology, biochemistry, general animal husbandry, general knowledge about animal nutrition and feed science

Course content: During the course the properties of biological active substances and feed additives as well as their categorization and content in various feedstuffs, mechanism of biological activity, manner of administration. Moreover the profits come out of their usage and hazards for human and animals stemmed from their improper application will be discussed. The current specification list and demands needed to be fulfilled to register feed additives will be presented. Furthermore the necessity of inclusion of biological active substances to animal nutrition taking into consideration sources and quality of raw materials, applied methods of feeds preservation and processing, animal health and physiological state, environmental conditions as well as consumers’ requirements related to animal origin product used in human nutrition (meat, milk, eggs) will be taught.
