Learning outcomes: After completing the curse students will possess the theoretical knowledge of essential groups of parasitic animals, their biology and ecology, methods of infection, the knowledge of disease caused by parasites (= parasitoses), their prophylaxis and control. Students will acquire the practical skill, which will enable them to carry out the basic laboratory-diagnostics and to identify the most important parasites of animals and humans

Competences: The completion of the course enables students to work in the diagnostic laboratory, and also to carry out the research, both in medical and veterinary parasitology.

Prerequisites:

Course content: Course contents: biology and ecology of ecto- and endoparasites; adaptations to the parasitic life style; life cycles of parasites; paths of infection; the pathogenicity, methods of control and prophylaxis of parasitoses and zoonoses; the parasite-host relationships; types of samples taken for analysis, methods of sample collection and preservation; methods of detection and identification of parasites of animals and humans.
