Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 - has deeper understanding of research methods used in biology [KB2_W01]; W2 - knows the most important statistical methods used in the specification and evaluation of natural phenomena [KB2_W02]; W3 - knows the rules of conducting research using organisms in terms of bioethics, knows the rules of operation of ethics committees [KB2_W03, KB2_W04_BŚ]; W4 - has knowledge of copyright law. He/she knows the rules substantive and formal preparation of scientific work [KB2_W07]. Skills: Student: U1 - organizes research in the field of biology in the field and laboratory, creates a correct statement of the results of research [KB2_U01, KB2_U02_BŚ]; U2 - skillfully uses the device for sampling of biological materials in the field. Student properly uses equipment in a biological laboratory [KB2_U02]; U3 - draws the correct conclusions on the basis of these results, skillfully finds the source material and critically interpret them [KB2_U04, KB2_U06]; U4 - can make the correct instance of scholarly use of multimedia techniques, selects reliable sources of scientific information. He/she summarizes his own views on the background of the achievements of other researchers [KB2_U05, KB2_U06]; U5 - describes own research in a scientific work with the support from a tutor, calculates the necessary chapters, properly formulated title and aim of the study, defines the research hypotheses. He/she knows how to properly make a table of literature [KB2_U08].

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 - is active in updating the knowledge of biology and related disciplines. Is aware of the need for lifelong learning [KB2_K01]; K2 – is open to work in a team, willing to cooperate and control group is aware of the responsibility for the tasks commonly performed in the band [KB2_K02]; K3 – is creative in problem solving, systematic and organized the implementation of research [KB2_K03, KB2_K05]; K4 - follows the principles of ethics in scientific research [KB2_K06].

Course content: The choice of theme and thesis supervisor. The general scheme of nature of scientific work. Semantic content of the chapters work. The technique of writing, editorial requirements. Valuable sources of knowledge: literature, scientific journals, the Internet. Scientist's work ethic, respect for copyright. Rules for the drafting of the paper and poster at a scientific conference. Review of scientific work. Constructive criticism and scientific discussion. Preparing for the realization of his own research project and a thesis.

Assessment methods: Assessment methods: Current rating (based on household tasks and oral expression) progress and activity. The presence of the exercises is compulsory, the student may have only one unauthorized absence. In the case of excused absences the student is required to pass the relevant part of the material. Completion of exercises based on the average ratings.
