Learning outcomes: Knowledges: After completing the course students are able to explain the biosynthetic pathways of isoprenoids, describe their biological properties and know the connections between the structures of isoprenoids and their biological activities. Skills: Students are able to project the synthetic path of isoprenoid compounds with particular biological properties.
Competences: Students understand phenomenon of biosynthesis of compounds in nature. They are creative and keen to cooperation in team.
Prerequisites: Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry
Course content: Biosynthesis of isoprenoids: monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes and steroids. Occurring of these groups of compounds in the plants and animal world. The biological activity of isoprenoids, especially natural and synthetic isoprenoid lactones. Chemical synthesis of some isoprenoids with useful biological activities.
