Learning outcomes: Knowledge The student knows the methods of laying foundations in complex ground-water conditions, including: in weak ground and at the bottom of a water reservoir; knows new technologies and designing methods of: reinforcing grounds, anchorages, diaphragm walls, concrete walls, retaining walls, reinforced concrete piles, jet-grouding injections, clay injections, piles created using DSM technology; knows the technology and methods of reinforcing trench walls, Berlin walls, light retaining structures (including reinforced ground structures); knows the methods of reinforcing the substratum with consolidation and pre-consolidation Skills The student is able to perform the following actions: choose the most suitable idea and design the foundations of a structure; specify the soil parameters; design and construct reinforced walls of a deep trench using multi-level anchorage; choose the appropriate methods of improving bearing capacity of subsoil in various ground-water conditions; secure structures to prevent excessive settlement; calculate, reinforce and drain foundation trenches; design retaining structures and anchorages.

Competences: The student seems to understand the importance of choosing the appropriate solutions for geotechnical structures in practical applications in terms of economical and safe construction and functioning of the designed engineering structures.

Prerequisites: Soil mechanics, Structural mechanics, Foundation engineering I.

Course content: Modern analysis techniques of substratum; laying foundations at the bottom of water reservoirs; preventing excessive settling; loadbearing cushions; calibrating foundations on large diameter piles and micropiles; engineer wells; caissons; jet-grounding piles and piles obtained by mixing the soil; substratum injections; anchorages; laying foundations on organic, expansive, anthropogenic and dips soils; reinforcing the substratum; vibrofloation and vibroreplacement; light retaining walls, reinforced ground structures; laying foundations in areas affected by mining damage.
