Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W01 – has wider knowledge about biology and detailed knowledge about animal production (BH2-W01, BH2-W06); W02 – has an advanced economical, legal and social knowledge connected with livestock farming (BH2-W03); W03 – knows modern techniques in animal breeding (BH2-W10); W04 – has an advanced knowledge about the complexity of factors determining functioning and development of rural areas including animal breeding (BH2-W15); Skills. Student U01 – is able to search, understand, analyze and creatively use all needed information from breeding files (BH2-U01); U02 – understands and uses appropriate IT technologies to obtain and process information concerning zootechnics (BH2-U03); U03 – independently design breeding projects of any livestock species (BH2-U05); U04 – is able to evaluate precisely all elements determining animal breeding (BH2-U06); U05 – can evaluate precisely an existing animal breeding indicating potential dangerous and methodological mistakes (BH2-U11);

Competences: Social competences (attitudes): K01 – understand the need of learning through the life and ameliorating professional skills concerning animal breeding, can work in group (BH2-K01, BH2-K07); K02 – is aware of the responsibility of tasks accomplished in a team(BH1-K02); K03 – is responsible for the equipment (BH2-K08);

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: completing the 1st level

Course content: Course contents:breeding objectives, criteria of breeding strategies selection, economical aspects of livestock improvement, gene flow in population, breeding work in a herd and large population, biotechniques supporting animal breeding, marker assisted selection, elimination of holders of unprofitable genes, methods of designing breeding programs, biological and economical optimisation of improvement process, analysis of conventional and unconventional breeding programs.
