Course code: IBS20083o13
Semester: 2013/2014 summer
Name: Advanced concrete structures
Major: Civil Engineering
Study Type: second cycle
Course type: compulsory
Study Semester: 1
ECTS points: 7
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 45 / 30 / 0
Lecturer: prof. dr hab. inż. Sylwester Kobielak
Language of instruction: Polish / English
The course in English will be available if a minimum of 6 students sign up for a group. If less than 6 students sign up for a group, the course will be available in Polish with the possibility of individual support in English.

Learning outcomes: Knowledge – knows the shell concrete structures, prestressed concrete structures and methods of their design and construction. – knows the structures and construction methods of prestressed concrete silos for bulk materials and tanks for liquids of large capacity. – knows selected problems of concrete protection structures and industrial buildings. Skills – able to design advanced concrete structures using computer programs and to recognize the structural behavior of these structures. – able to identify technical problems that require the use of non-standard methods of analysis. – can choose the suitable type of tank , silo or structure roof depending on the value of load and characteristics of an building structure (span, diameter)

Competences: After completion of the course, the student should be able to design advanced engineering concrete structures and to recognize the structural behavior of these structures.

Prerequisites: Concrete structures I and II.

Course content: Arches structures, cylindrical shells, conical and dome shells. Domes of uniform thickness and ribbed. Hyperbolic paraboloid, conoid and complex (intersecting) shells. Roof of sport halls, stadiums, church building and other buildings. Tanks for liquids and liquefied gas. Silos. Silos and tanks of large capacity. Concrete protection structures and industrial buildings.
