Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Students know basic lows and principles in the field of electricity, magnetism , optics and selected branches of modern physics, and examples of their applying in industry and everyday live, thoroughly know basics of the mathematical analysis of physical phenomena (including variable quantities with differential and integral calculus), know electrical, magnetic and optical parameters of materials and understand their meaning, are acquainted with selected physical measuring methods (including modern ones). Skills: Students can measure the electric values, can connect simple circuits according to scheme and understand the principles of their operation, know and can apply the simplest electronic converters to measure non-electrical parameters. Students are able to apply the physical lows they know for solving simple practical problems, are able to analyze physical/natural phenomena referring to all branches of physics. Students professionally present graphically and analytically the results of measurements and relationships between physical values, understand description of dynamic values with the use of differential and integral calculus (without complex calculations).

Competences: Social skills (attitude): Student is open to the latest research and technological developments. He is creative in solving professional problems. His qualities are sensivity to problems of the protection of natural environment. He is ready to actively live in society based on knowledge.

Prerequisites: Course of mathematics and physics in the winter semester

Course content: Selected problems from electricity and magnetism, electrical and magnetic properties of matter, electrical measurements and electrical methods for examining materials; elementary description of electromagnetic waves; laws of optics as a consequence of the wave propagation principles, optical instruments and optical methods for examining materials; physical basis of current methods for testing media: spectroscopy, fluorimetry, electron and tunnel microscopy, isotopic tracer methods.
