Learning outcomes: Learning outcomes After completing the course a student is able to: a) define methods of crop production, shows their features, presents crop production in various agricultural systems b) identifie environmental factors in crop production: climatic, soil, topographic, biotic and anthropogenic c) describe agronomy factors: soil tillage, seedbed preparation, natural and mineral fertilizer application, methods and means for weed control d) present groups of cops, most important species of crops, their importance, methods of cultivation and post-harvest utilization Practical skills a) evaluates environmental factors affecting crop production in a farm, b) shows possibilities of direct and indirect methods of adaptation to environmental conditions c) examines selection of species and cultivars and their compatibility with climatic and soil conditions in a farm, methods used for soil tillage, fertilization and weed control sustainable development.

Competences: Student is able to a) find appropriate solution of a given problem; b) is aware of threats to the environment resulting from farming.

Prerequisites: Biology

Course content: characteristics of field crop production, idea of sustainable development in agriculture, levels of organization in agroecosystem and its trophic structure, differences between agroecosystem and ecosystem, environmental conditions and possibilities of their control, types of fertilizers and their application, methods of crop protection, weeds and their harmfulness, cropping of cereals, root crops, grain legumes and pasture legumes, contemporary agricultural systems.
