Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 - knows classification of inorganic and organic compounds. He assigns inorganic compounds to particular groups (electrolytes, non-electrolytes, weak and strong electrolytes) [KB_W01]; W2 – knows structure of organic compounds, names and identifies particular groups of compounds [KB_W01]; W3 – student is capable to identify the unknown organic compounds on the basis of characteristics reactions and spectroscopic data. He can also determine basic physicochemical data as melting point, boiling point, refractive index of organic compounds [KB_W01]. Skills: Student: U1- plans and carries out experiences in the chemical laboratories [KB_U01, KB_U02]; U2 - assembles and works on the apparatus for basic physical and chemical operations useful in the laboratory of organic chemistry [KB_U02]; U3 – gives correct interpretation of observed effects of chemical reactions [KB_U01, KB_U02, KB_U14].

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 - follows the instructions and obeys the work rules in a chemical laboratory [KB_K09]; K2 – understands risks associated with the use of chemicals, towards themselves and classmates [KB_K09]; K3 - is creative and keen on cooperation in team, is also active in solving group problems [KB_K02]; K4 – shows responsibility and entrust of laboratory equipment [KB_K08].

Prerequisites: Possessed (as far as good) material with chemistry in high school.

Course content: Atom structure, properties of chemical elements. Types of chemical bonds. Equilibriums in the solutions. Red-ox processes. Isomerism of organic compounds. Nomenclature, properties and reactions aliphatic and aromatic compounds containing common functional groups. Properties of carbohydrates and amino acids.

Assessment methods: Laboratory assessment: compulsory attendance, completion of the laboratory exercises, written reports from the performer experiments, three colloquia, Course assessment: written exam – open questions. If student will fail the exam the first time, he has the right to pass it in the second term.
