Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1- can describes the significance of neonatal period [KB - W06, KB - W07]; W2- defines the meaning of homeostasis and the development of neonatal important organs in pre-and postnatal [KB - W07]; W3- indicates the key elements of newborn care [KB - W07] W4- defines role in the formation of passive immunity of colostrum in the newborn animals [KB - W05, KB - W06]; W5- knows the rules neonatal care after cesarean section. Indicates a threats during rearing newborns without a mother [KB - W07] W6- can explain threat neonatal period, non-infection diseases and infection [KB - W05, KB - W07]; Skills: Student: U1-Assesses the health status of newborns [KB - U06, KB - U11] U2- assistances at birth on accompanying of farm animals [KB - U13] U3- applies the principles of care on the neonatal after delivery physiological and after caesarean section [KB - U11]; U4- can estimate transfer passive immunity of neonatal [KB - U05, KB - U06]; U5- uses methods of neonatal care without mother [KB - U13]

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1- shows interest in updating systematic knowledge of neonatology and related disciplines [KB - K01] K3- can be responsible for the safety and protection of animals in the neonatal period and safety of people [KB - K09]; K3- works with animals proceed ethically [KB - K07].

Prerequisites: Animal physiology, biology of animals reproduction

Course content: Meaning neonatal period. The development of the most important organs in the prenatal period in livestock and accompanying. Influence of health of mother on the course of delivery. Physiological delivery and assessment methods of delivery. Hypoxia. Features of the development of the digestive system in preterm infants. Weak baby syndrome. Threats neonatal period, non-communicable diseases and infectious diseases. Evaluate the health of newborn animals. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies in newborns. Neonatal resuscitation. Help perinatal during delivery livestock and accompanying animals. Babysitting infant after physiological delivery and after caesarean section

Assessment methods: Completion of the exercise: The presence of the exercises is obligatory, the student may have only one unexcused absence. In the case of excused absences a student is obliged to pass the relevant part of the material.
