Learning outcomes: Student possess knowledge about biodiversity, development and protection against adverse abiotic and biotic factors of the natural environment. He/She has knowledge of the habitat requirements and the techniques and technologies of cultivation of economically important agricultural and horticultural crops; knows the principles of integrated farming and understand their environmental, economic and natural meaning, understand the specific care and protection of plants in different cultivation systems. He/She obtains information from literature, databases, interprets it and draw conclusions, know how to formulate and justify their own opinions; uses the basic decision support databases, is able to identify the basic requirements for the major crop species and can plan their cultivation technology.

Competences: Student understands the need of learning and life-long training in issues related to the protection of plants and the environment, is able to work individually and in a team, taking the different roles, is aware of the shared responsibility for the tasks performed in the group, understands the importance of prevention in social action for the maintenance of the plants health.

Prerequisites: Botany, Chemistry

Course content: Natural conditions for crop production in Poland. Theoretical and practical introduction to habitat conditions, tillage technology presentation, planting, cultivating and harvesting crops used in modern agriculture, practical introduction to the method of implementation of the basic tillage, demonstrate a proper sequence of crops and crop rotations construction; learn to recognize the most important crops in various stages of development.

Assessment methods: Assessment of learning outcomes in terms of knowledge: written exam + project of cultivation system in different rotations. Evaluation of the effects of training in skills: evaluation in the field. Homework in the form of projects, power point presentations. Assessing the effects of training in social skills: individually work and in the groups, discussions.
