Learning outcomes: The student after completing the course should acquire skills in 3D Studio Max for the creation of three-dimensional drawings including modeling, materials with shaders creation and lightning setups for commercial projects visualizations in landscape architecture.

Competences: Ability to create design visualizations, manage and use of reference sources, methods and materials in accordance with the applicable scene creation rules.

Prerequisites: Preceding subjects: information technologies,computer-aided design, architectural drawing, painting in landscape architecture.

Course content: Practical and theoretical classes. Introduction to 3DS Max and user interface. Software environment characteristic. User settings, navigation and user tools. Work with files and objects inside 3DS Max. Work with layers. Import and export of files from AutoCAD and additional software. Real world measurements issues base on reference sources. Basics of modeling related to landscape architecture details (shade structures, benches, railings, stairs, etc.). Basic modifications of the 3D objects. Terrain modeling. Material editor and custom shaders settings. Creating materials, textures and UVW mapping. Lightning sources and types. Prepare cameras in scene to maximize final effect. Rendering setups for landscape exteriors in Mental Ray. Basic techniques of post production and publishing.
