Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 – has advanced knowledge of natural hazards and civilization, including bioterrorist threats and epidemiological data and knowledge associated with their analysis and evaluation criteria [KB_W01]; W2 – has knowledge of the agricultural production security, food production, including national and citizens security in the face of bioterrorist threats [KB_W02]; W3 – understands the possibilities and consequences of natural and civilization hazards, including the role of bio-terrorism biotechnology and its impact on food safety and security of the nation [KB_W03]; W4 – knows the practical concepts of protection and prevention of natural disasters and mass events [KB_W15]; W5 – indicate the possibility of practical use of knowledge in real life, especially in the field of organization and security failures, disasters and mass events, and epidemiological risk. [KB_W18]. Skills: Student: U1 – properly conducts environmental observations, interprets and discuss the results and draw appropriate conclusions, using scientific and specialized terminology [KB_U06]; U2 – observe the consequences of disasters and epidemiological threats and their anthropogenic ground; clarify the relationship with increased security and the prevention of mass events [KB_U11]; U3 – properly evaluate and interpret the threat with a classification of their origin, suggests the possibility of countering the effects of the disaster arisen [KB_U15]; U4 – on the basis of professional literature, formulate arguments on the knowledge of the disasters, bioterrorism and other mass events, discussing the possibilities of a solution of current problems [KB_U16]; U5 – has the ability to prepare reports, project work, papers and other written assignments and presentations related to the subject [KB_U18];

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 – shows interest in updating the knowledge of national security and related disciplines; understands the need for research and prevention activities in this field [KB_K01]; K2 – is able to schedule tasks and preventive research adapting them to prevailing conditions, based on the test equipment is able to perform certain procedures [KB_K03]; K3 – is sensitive to nature as a set of cognitive and educational values, is sensitive to the protection of people and animals against the mass events and natural disasters [KB_K04]; K4 – is aware of the risks to humans and animals resulting from the epidemiological risks, recognizes the need to conduct research, education and monitoring natural and civilization disasters [KB_K06]; K5 – based on the acquired knowledge is able to operate in own business [KB_K10].

Prerequisites: physiology, microbiology, chemistry

Course content: Concepts and classification of natural and civilization hazards. Environmental catastrophes and natural disasters. Terrorism – the types of attacks and how to recognize them. Bioterrorism and food terrorism. Assessment, analysis and prevention of WMD. The organization and preservation of failures, disasters and mass events. Epidemiological threats. GMO. Legal regulations.

Assessment methods: Pass classes: periodic written test to assess the current rating (based on oral statements) progress and activity. The presence at the tutorials is compulsory, the student may have only one unauthorized absence. In the case of the rest absences the student is required to pass the relevant part of the material. Completion of exercises based on the average ratings. Completion of the course: students with valid completion of practical written test. The test time is 45 minutes. If student will fail
